
Julie London (nee Peck) was an American performer and actress who performed for over 40 years. London was a torch singer, known for her smooth, soft vocals. She recorded more than 30 albums of jazz and pop standards from 1955 until 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry me a river" that she recorded, was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to the recording, London was nominated for an award called a Golden Globe Award in 1974 in her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her acting career. London's long and successful acting career started in 1944 , with roles in movies. These included roles as the lead female character in numerous westerns. She also starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) as well as Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. In 1969 she released her final studio album. However she continued to be part of the Emergency show as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) in which she appeared alongside her husband Bobby Troup. The show was produced by her former husband Jack Webb.
